Renewal Period
Food facility registration must be renewed every two years, during the period of October 1 through December 31 of each even-numbered year. Registrations not renewed during this window are automatically canceled at the end of December 31.
The 2026 renewal cycle follows the same biennial schedule as every prior cycle — but it is the first renewal window many facilities will face since the FDA's updated FURLS/UFI requirements took full effect, which means the process is not always a simple "confirm and resubmit."
The FDA does not send automatic reminders to facilities before the window opens. Tracking the deadline, and making sure your submission is accurate before it is filed, is the responsibility of the facility and its designated U.S. Agent.

The FDA does not send a warning before canceling a lapsed registration. Once the window closes on December 31, 2026, an unrenewed registration is void with no further notice.

Renewal is one of the most common points at which a facility discovers its existing U.S. Agent has gone quiet — a freelancer who stopped responding, a service that shut down, or a contact who changed roles. Because the renewal cannot be completed without a valid, confirmed U.S. Agent, this is worth checking before the window opens.
